Congratulations ! to Massimiliano Alajmo chef in Italy for ever to receive three Michelin stars when in 2002 at the age of 29. He got this achievement when he was the youngest chef.

Greece’s 4th biggest city has just launched a planet-wide internet channel to show off the biggest event of the year – a first for any city in the world!

The Patras Carnival is the largest such event in Greece and one of the biggest carnivals in Europe with more than 160 years of history.

Our carnival is not a single event but a variety of events that includes balls, parades, treasure hunt game, kids’ carnival and more.

The high point is the last weekend (5th and 6th of March) with the Saturday evening parade of carnival groups, the extravagant Sunday parade of floats and groups, and finally the ritual burning of King Carnival at the St. Nikolaos Street wharf in the harbour of Patras.

This year an enlightened organization committee the PCPWME * are pleased to announce a WORLD WIDE FIRST – an initiative that will allow anyone with access to the internet across our whole planet to watch and join in the festivities.

The Patras Carnival web channel http://www.carnivalpatras.tv is already broadcasting extracts of older and more recent Carnival events.

Friends of the carnival will be informed about the activities of the carnival from the Carnival Press news channels on the site, culminating in three internet LIVE broadcasted carnival events:

Ive been told its best to avoid Venice in the summer as water can get really smelly! Best to go when its abit cooler!

The island looks amazing. I've been in several hotels in Venice but never on Lido. I thought it would be too expensive for me. Helemaamorris made me think of staying there the next time. Thanks.

Mais quelle horreur! Si on commence à mettre de tels transports dans Venise, c'en est fini du respect historique de la ville.Pourquoi pas un train de ce genre au dessus du Grand Canal tant qu'on y est. Pourquoi ne pas lui faire traverser toute la ville! Il y a déjà le Piazzale Roma et la gare. c'était bien suffisant. Inutile d'en rajouter. Les bateaux faisaient l'affaire largement, la ville est bâti pour les bateaux pas pour les métros ou les voitures......! L'avidité des promoteurs et constructeurs de tout poil entraîne les pires excès (Il n'y a qu'à voir la sculpture infâme qui orne la pointe de la Douane mise en lieu et place d'un superbe lampadaire qui trônait là depuis toujours et lui donnait son cachet si particulier. Monsieur Pinault, à coup de milliards pouvait se contenter de faire joujou à l'intérieur du bâtiment sans étaler ces horreurs, en plus, dehors. Comme il le fait aussi devant le Palazzo Grassi, exposant tantôt une sorte de «Pluto» (le chien de Disney) rose métallisé, tantôt une horreur de masque en acier. Tout ça sur le Grand Canal et devant un palazzo du 18e! C'est un vrai scandale. On se demande à quoi pensent les autorités locales pour autoriser ça. Le métro aérien c'est exactement dans la même veine. De plus, Venise suffoque déjà par l'invasion touristique de masse. Avec de tels projets on va faire encore entrer plus de gens dans la ville pour finir de l'étouffer. Pauvre Venise......
Une amoureuse de Venise, que de telles horreurs rendent malade!

Hi Flavia, great article. This is the 2nd time I've heard about Lido when talking about Venice. How far is the island from Venice? I'd love to go to Venice and might be able to check out Lido too if there's more time.

Looking to those photos I really want to go to Lido ...My friend was there recently and she said that the Hotels are also not too much expansive there. It is great place to visit and enjoy the amazing nature !! :)) Thank you for the nice review !
